Creative and supportive mentors are key to our success. Grow to Grow mentors are volunteers with a variety of backgrounds and life experiences, but all have a common interest in growing plants and supporting kids.
Each Grow to Grow teen is paired with a mentor who guides the teen through the interview and plant design process. Together, the teens and mentors create beautiful plant combinations that are specially designed for each customer. With the guidance and support of the mentors, the teens also learn essential life competencies:
- Responsibility to manage their work schedule and themselves with appropriate workplace behavior;
- Collaboration with mentors and peers to fulfill customer needs;
- Initiative to complete tasks and problem solve in a timely manner;
- Motivation to learn new skills and increase knowledge;
- Communication with customers, mentors, and peers;
- Addressing challenges, dealing with conflict, and building character; and
- Critical thinking, advanced communication, and customer service.
